Monochrome: The Physics of Colour
In this immersive experience we will transform your classroom or office into a space devoid of all but one colour.
Inspired by the work of Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson we will see what one colour can teach us about all colours. Answering such questions as: why did street lights used to be yellow? Why are tigers camouflaged even though they are orange? And, is tonal value more important than colour in art?

The Impact of Mary Blagg: A Method For Mapping the Moon
This 1-2 hour workshop combines maths, storytelling and visual art to learn about selenography (moon mapping) and the gender bias in crater naming.
This workshop is best suited to 11 - 16 year olds but can be adapted for other age groups.

The Art of Astrophysics
Who knew how creative STEM could be? Explore alternative forms of science communication from poetry, music and visual art.
This is a series of modular workshop activities that can last anywhere between and hour or a whole day to suit your needs. We'll show a group of up to 30 students how the latest astrophysics research can be used to inspire poetry and artwork and how visual art is intrinsic in how scientists communicate abstract concepts. With a specific focus on STEAM role models from the LGBT+ community, give your students a better understanding of the exciting world beyond Newtonian physics. This workshop is the result of the interdisciplinary collaboration between artist Gaz Lawrence and astrophysics researcher Dr Sebastian Von Hausegger
This workshop is best suited to 11 - 16 year olds but can be adapted for other age groups.
This workshop is currently heavily subsidised for UK state schools with up to 24 free places available.

The Future of Art - Are We More Creative Than Artificial Intelligence?

Learn how AI is impacting the future of visual art and creativity.
In this 90-minute workshop, we'll use the artwork of Gaz Lawrence to help students develop their prompt engineering skills, encouraging them to be more deeply observant and refining their descriptive language. We’ll then look at what insights neuroscience research offers us into verbal creativity, testing if students can beat AI chat bots.
We then culminate in students creating their own generative surrealist artworks to appreciate how they may be a new tool in the modern artist’s toolkit.
This workshop is best suited to 13 - 16 year olds but can be adapted for other age groups.

Enhancing Technological Literacy Using Art and Creative Writing.
Students are encouraged to enhance their learning through the safe use of artificial intelligence (AI).
In this 90-minute workshop, we'll show students how machine learning works, how it replicates human biases, and how we can use AI to encourage creativity whilst also improving literacy and allowing students to critically analyse the topical debate surrounding AI copyright issues.

Become an Art Forensic Scientist for the Day.
In this full-day masterclass, students have the opportunity to experience what it's like to work in the world of art forensics by unraveling the identity of a mysterious piece of art.
Students combine scientific analysis, art history, public speaking, and reading skills to unravel the question marks hanging over the authenticity of a puzzling painting. Students will also learn how cutting-edge research is using artificial intelligence to validate paintings.

Expressive Explosions: Making ‘Pop’ Music with Chemistry
In this full-day masterclass funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry, 40 students over two days will have the opportunity to experience how we can use chemistry to make music. Starting with experiments to determine the reactivity of metals and how to test for hydrogen gas, students will sample the ‘pop’ created by the hydrogen test in different sized vessels.
Not only will this give students a better understanding of the underlying chemistry but also how sounds are produced.
After lunch we will use these sampled sounds to produce a melody and chemistry inspired lyrics.
These sessions are specifically for students with Special Educational Needs and will have support from Learning Support Assistants.
